From the high volcanic mountains of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa to ocean front beaches, Hawaii is a visual feast. Enjoy lush hidden valleys such as the Waipio Valley, once home to the kings of old Hawaii. Travel to the Akaka Falls State Park on the east side of the island for a wonderful hike through primeval forests of giant ferns of a tropical rain forest.

The old town of Hilo offers shopping, a taste of a counter culture and outstanding orchid farms. Bring an umbrella because you'll be on the wet side of the island that gets over 100 inches of rain per year.

Travel highway 250 through the Kohala Range on the north end where Pear Cactus are scattered through lush grass fields. And the south end offers Hawaii's world famous active volcano and national park.

 

Experience marine life at one of several snorkeling beaches close to Kanaloa, and stop at the roadside produce stand for delicious tropical fruits. The town of Kona is just several miles north of Kanaloa and offers a variety of shopping, entertainment, and good restaurants.

Wherever you travel through the Big Island, you'll be treated to a beautiful and diverse landscape of forests, mountains and fields of lava flows.
